Connect an agent
Your memos, wherever your AI works.
Cordial runs an MCP server, the open protocol AI assistants use to reach tools and data. Connect once, and your assistant can search, read and, if you let it, update your memos.
Got the compost. Tick it off my garden list.
- Protocol
- MCP over Streamable HTTP
- Sign-in
- OAuth in the browser, or an agent key
- Scope
- All projects or a chosen few; read-only or read-write
- Limits
- Up to 20 connections per account
Setup
Connected in a minute.
Your server address is on the Account screen in Cordial, along with the keys and connections you've made.
Claude on the web, desktop and phone
No key to copy. You approve the connection in your browser.
- In Cordial, open Account and copy your MCP server address.
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and add a custom connector with that address.
- Cordial's consent screen opens. Pick the projects Claude may see, and whether it may make changes.
- That's it. The connection appears under Connected agents in your account, where you can revoke it anytime.
Claude Code
One command in your terminal.
- In Cordial, open Account, create an agent key and choose its scope. The key is shown once.
-
Add the server, with your address and key:
claude mcp add --transport http cordial https://your-address/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer vma_your_key"
- Ask about your memos. The Account screen shows this command with your address already filled in.
Cursor
Add Cordial to Cursor's MCP settings.
- In Cordial, open Account, create an agent key and choose its scope.
-
Add this to
~/.cursor/mcp.json:{ "mcpServers": { "cordial": { "url": "https://your-address/mcp", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer vma_your_key" } } } } - Restart Cursor, and Cordial's tools appear in its agent.
Any MCP client
Anything that speaks MCP over HTTP works. Point it at your address with /mcp on the end, then either:
- Let it sign in. Clients that support OAuth discover everything from the server, register themselves and send you to the consent screen.
- Or give it a key. Create an agent key on the Account screen and send it as
Authorization: Bearer vma_….
- Endpoint
POST https://your-address/mcp, one JSON-RPC message per request, no sessions- OAuth
- Authorization code with PKCE; dynamic registration and client metadata documents
- Versions
- MCP 2025-06-18 and 2025-03-26
- Browsers
- Requests from a web page are refused, so no site can use your key
The tools
Twelve tools, plainly named.
The same tools power Cordial's own chat. Each works only inside its connection's scope: a memo or project outside it simply doesn't exist to the agent.
Read Every connection
Lists the projects this connection can see, with their descriptions.
Finds memos by their words and by their meaning, best first, each with the matching passage and a link to open it in Cordial.
Lists memos newest first, optionally for one project or a range of dates, a page at a time.
Reads one memo in full: its text, summary, gist, the people and places it mentions, and which fields you've set by hand.
Write Only connections allowed to make changes
Saves a new typed note. It's titled, filed and summarized like anything you capture.
Lands in the Inbox unless the agent names a project.
Makes a new project.
Only for connections that can see every project.
Renames a project or changes its description. Its memos stay where they are.
Moves every memo of one project into another and removes the first. Always returns a preview first.
Both projects must be ones the connection can see.
Renames a memo. The new title is kept, so automatic processing never changes it back.
Changes one exact passage of a memo, like ticking off a list item, without retyping the rest.
Refused if the memo changed since the agent read it. The old version is kept.
Replaces a memo's whole text. The summary is rewritten to match, and the previous version is kept.
Files memos into a project. One moves right away; several return a preview first.
Carries out a previewed move or merge, once you've said yes.
A preview expires after 15 minutes and works only for the connection that made it.
Reads a photo or PDF into text, or describes a picture, so it becomes searchable.
A photo read costs about a cent.
Adds a photo, PDF, text file or any other file as a new memo: the agent gets a short-lived upload link and sends the file there. A PDF or text file is read into text as it lands.
Up to 100 MB. Lands in the Inbox unless the agent names a project. Outside agents only, not the in-app chat.
Guardrails
Powerful, and careful by design.
A key per connection
Each agent gets its own key with its own scope, so one connection never sees what another can.
Read-only by default
Changes are off unless you turn them on for that connection.
No deletes
No tool can delete a memo or a project. Deleting happens only in the app, by you.
Previews before bulk changes
Moving several memos returns a preview first. Nothing happens until you agree.
Revoke instantly
Remove a connection from your account and its key stops working on the next request.
Nothing logged
Cordial never logs your keys, what an agent asks for, or what it gets back.
Building something bigger?
Every record your agent can reach, and how they connect, is mapped out in the data model.
